In a few words, what is your field, or the work you do?

Think about the work where your judgement is worth the most: the calls only you can really make. Where does AI sit in relation to that work right now?

I use AI for bits and pieces around the edges. The work that really depends on my judgement, I still do entirely myself. Now and then I bring AI into that high-value work, but it is not a settled part of how I do it. Most of what I use it for is the smaller stuff. I deliberately bring AI to my most valuable work, though I decide to each time, case by case. My most valuable work is the first place I reach for AI. That is simply how I work now. As AI takes on more, I keep pointing it at the next most valuable thing. What I trust it with keeps climbing.

How much of your expertise exists outside your own head, as something AI can draw on?

Almost none. What I know is in my head, and my calls, decisions and past work leave no trace anywhere useful. Bits and pieces. Files across folders, some notes, maybe a few recordings. Nothing that holds together. I have built something that holds together: my methods written down, or a client or subject area where the conversations, decisions and documents live in one place and stay there. I bring the right part to a task when it needs it. That body is what it works from. My methods, my accumulated work and the reasoning behind my decisions are there without me supplying them each time. It deepens as I work. Every engagement and conversation adds to it just by doing the work, so there is more to draw on each month than the last.

When AI produces something on work that matters, how close is it to your own standard, the version you would put your name to?

What comes out is generic. It could have come from anyone in my field. It starts to sound like me while I am actively pushing it there, but left alone it drifts back to generic. It reflects my judgement reliably, but I still review and correct it each time. What comes out is recognisably mine by default. I correct at the margins rather than rebuild. It gets more reliably mine over time, as my corrections and preferences build up in how it responds.

Does the value of your AI practice depend on you being present, or does any of it run, or travel to other people, without you in the loop?

Everything depends on me being in the loop. Nothing runs without me. Others get the benefit occasionally, but only when I hand something over directly. I have things others could use, but they only really adopt them when I am there to explain. Others use it reliably, or something runs across my own work without me driving it each time. Work gets done on a schedule, or a process completes and comes back to me to decide on. It keeps extending. More people, or more of my work, depends on it, and it holds my standard as it spreads rather than thinning out.

How much have you actually designed the way you work with AI, as opposed to it just having evolved?

I have not really designed it. I open it and figure it out as I go. I have settled into some habits but nothing deliberate. No real setup, no configured environment. I have made some deliberate choices: projects, saved prompts, a way of working I would describe as mine. My setup is intentional: a configured environment, context that carries between sessions, a consistent and efficient way of working I have built over time. I keep refining it. The way I work with AI evolves as my needs and understanding develop.

In a sentence or two: what is the part of your work that still depends entirely on you being the one to do it, the bit you have not been able to hand to anyone or anything?
